The Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council (CCLC) will hold its 2015 Turning a New Leaf Conference on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel in Towson, Maryland. The conference educates professionals with the latest information on sustainable landscaping and development best practices. Sustainable landscapes are becoming increasingly necessary for maintaining healthy local and regional watersheds and the greater environment. The day-long event will attract landscape professionals, scholars, educators, and representatives from federal agencies and local governments. The conference also hosts an EcoMarketplace featuring organizations and green businesses from around the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
This year’s conference features four tracks: Landscape Design Perspectives, Soils and Plants: From the Ground Up, New Paradigms in Stormwater Management, and Sustainable Management of the Designed Landscape. Keynote speaker Larry Weaner’s presentation will explore ways of integrating ecological patterns and processes with the traditions of landscape design. Plenary Speaker Lauren Wheeler will provide an overview of sustainable rating systems including LEEDv4, Living Building Challengev2 and SITESv2, as they apply to the residential designer. The conference will feature several Baltimore-based speakers who will highlight innovative sustainable landscaping in the local area.
Participants may also sign up for the Welcome Dinner on the evening of November 12, featuring Liz Buxton, Executive Director, The Valleys Planning Council, Towson, MD, speaking about “50+ Years of Land Conservation Success in Baltimore County”. Dinner also includes a preliminary screening of the Hometown Habitat film, an new documentary about the important role of native plants in our ecosystems.
